We all want to be loved, right?

Key questions any business will ask themselves include: On what scale will we trade? Are we looking to establish ourselves as a small reliable company with a solid client-base and consistent  turnover, or will nothing less than world domination satisfy our ambitions? How big a team are we going to need? Who will we sell to? What will we sell? How much will we charge? And, what will our policy be for finding new clients? Great questions. Essential questions. But there’s one crucial question missing: How will we grow our business online specifically?

How do you make them love you? By meeting all of their criteria when it comes to the strategies that you implement on your website; by making their lives easier; by ticking all of these boxes (and thereby making yourself more appealing to Google) as you painstakingly craft and then issue your web pages; be they website pages, articles, blog posts or other types of pages published online intended to inform and persuade:

  • Adopt an ethical approach: use only White Hat techniques, including quality content, relevant keywords, and keyword-rich metadata.
  • On the subject of keywords, spend some time researching high-value ones. Don’t overdo their usage, though. Here’s where to place them:

In your on-page text, position keyword 1 (e.g. water cooler) in the following places:

  1. The main heading (put this in h1 tags: <h1>Benefits of a Water Cooler</h1>)
  2. The opening sentence of your first paragraph, but never as the first or last word
  3. In a couple of subheadings (put these in h2 tags: <h2>Sourcing the right water cooler </h2>)
  4. In bulleted, italicised and emboldened text where you can, but sparingly
  5. In the final paragraph, but never as the first or last word

Aim for keyword 1 to appear in the body text twice only, and then drop it into your subheadings and bulleted list(s). ‘Sprinkle’ your related keywords throughout (once each). E.g. water cooler dispenser, water bottles, refillable water bottles, water cooler company… TIP: Sometimes, to add strength, put a strapline in bold or in an <h1> tag at the bottom of the page, with Keyword 1 included:

<h1>Get refreshed with a Chillax Water Cooler TODAY</h1>

  • DO NOT PLAGIARISE. That’s a one-way ticket to the SEO Google dungeon. Sure, you can see what your competitors are doing, by finding their website’s Home page > Right-clicking your mouse somewhere in the white space of the page > then, from the drop-down list, choose View Page Source and see what keywords they’re using in their metadata tags.

Or you could ‘Google’ the three highest ranking companies in your particular industry and look at which keywords they’re using. Don’t copy those keywords and phrases exactly. Just glean ideas. Mix and match them up, to create your own list. You could also use a free keyword research tool such as Wordstream.com/keywords.

IMPORTANT: Remember to keep a list of resources drawn from. And always run your text through a Plagiarism-checker to make sure you haven’t inadvertently included some duplicate phrasing findable elsewhere online or off-line. If you have, make the necessary amendments until your copy comes up as 100 per cent ‘clean’.

What is SEO & White Hat Search engine Optimisation Tactics

Other White Hat SEO tactics proven to be effective, and which Google et all adore, are authoritative inbound links, fast page-loading times, intelligently structured mark-up language, and super-lean code. Tick all these boxes, and, through wisely adhering to the rules and regulations of honest SEO, you can look forward to high visibility online. Though nothing’s guaranteed, if search engine spiders are left in no doubt as to what your content relates to, they’ll feverishly get to work, rewarding your pages with improved rankings.

Sure, loads of other businesses dream the same dream, but perhaps surprisingly many fail to put the effort in, the necessary research and spadework required to get their SEO where it needs to be, to make it as powerful as possible. Or they employ Black Hat and Grey Hat techniques and come a cropper through failing to play by the rules. Don’t do the same. Take the time to get your SEO strategy right and it could pay off, BIG TIME. Better still, entrust a recognised digital marketing agency with the orchestration and ongoing management of your SEO strategy and you can relax, safe in the knowledge that your SEO is unquestionably powerfully optimised at all times.

That could just be the start! These days, there’s myriad other ways to:

GROW YOUR BUSINESS WITH A DIGITAL MARKETING AGENCY

But don’t let anyone tell you that it’s simply ‘child’s play’

Key questions any business will ask themselves include: On what scale will we trade? Are we looking to establish ourselves as a small reliable company with a solid client-base and consistent  turnover, or will nothing less than world domination satisfy our ambitions? How big a team are we going to need? Who will we sell to? What will we sell? How much will we charge? And, what will our policy be for finding new clients? Great questions. Essential questions. But there’s one crucial question missing: How will we grow our business online specifically?

The answer is to forge a good working relationship with an established digital marketing agency – a full-service agency, not one whose services are mainly bolted on. Building trust doesn’t happen overnight, of course, but what’s the rush? Better to take some time researching agencies. Compare them. Generally get a feel for it all. Look for SEO Case Studies. Then reflect before deciding upon which one would suit you best as a partner going forward.

Don’t forget, many agencies are exactly where you are, perpetually under pressure to meet the challenge of acquiring new clients in a fiercely competitive market, though they can expect at least some generated revenue from repeat business and referrals from their current clients.

But back to you…

If you’re looking to grow your business, here’s the key things to look for in a digital marketing agency:

  • Are they established or is this a newly set up operation? Of course, we all have to start somewhere, but do you really want to hand over your digital marketing to an agency that’s only just finding its feet?
  • Does the agency have a history of running successful digital campaigns?
  • Do they try to blind you with science, peppering every conversation or e-mail with impenetrable jargon, or are they refreshingly plain speaking?
  • Does it feel like the right match? This is so important. You may be working together for months, years, possibly even decades, making it critical to form a bond with a digital marketing agency who you can enjoy working with, sharing a mutually satisfying and fruitful working relationship in both the short and long term. If every time you contact them there’s some kind of tension, awkwardness or even reluctance, then what’s the point! That’s not to say you should become bosom pals with them, though; try to strike a balance between feeling comfortable without letting the deepening relationship fragment your focus as you strive to achieve your business goals.
  • Can they show you testimonials from satisfied clients? And are they happy for you to contact these companies?
  • Read reviews. You can learn so much from those. OK, some need to be taken with a pinch of salt, but if online reviews are generally favourable that augurs well for you, for obvious reasons.
  • Are they always professional in their communications?
  • Are they honest when it comes to timelines? Or does that aspect of how they come across seem dubious, due to them promising outlandishly fast results that just leave you feeling suspicious not wowed?
  • Do their claims seem plausible or ridiculously overblown? Or the assurances they make feel pie in the sky or realistic?
  • Do they make the effort to try to understand you, or are most ‘conversations’ with them not conversations at all? If a digital marketing agency seems all too fond of blowing its own trumpet, AVOID.
  • When they suggest different ways to market and grow your business (using a range of marketing tools and strategies) do they also tell you why you should consider these options? Beware of supposed seo digital experts who are very good at telling you what you should do but not so good at detailing how those decisions could prove beneficial to your business in both the short and long-term.

Online Digital Marketing Agency

Remember, though, that before you pick up the phone or start drafting an e-mail to any digital marketing agency found through a simple online search or by recommendation, know this: what you want, why you want it, when you want it, and what your budget is; and, critically, don’t commit to an agency that seems hesitant when it comes to providing a clear pricing structure.

Also (and here’s something that’s all too often overlooked by businesses everywhere) ask if it will actually be them who’ll be doing the work. No, really. Some SEO agencies take on contracts and then outsource these to smaller agencies or even unproven part-time freelancers (without the clients’ knowledge. Aargh!). You need experienced full-time professionals to handle your internet presence and the gradual growth of your visibility online – a Digital Marketing Agency that always knows exactly what it’s doing, and WHY.
